An Arabic edition of The Jewish Bride is on the books. Avitoria Books in Baghdad has declared its interest to publish it.
Avitoria is a small publishing firm off Muntanabbi Street in Baghdad, the centre for books in the Iraqi capital. It is run by Muna al-Jabri, a young Baghdadi woman who only recently started as a publisher.
The plan for the publication was hatched during a visit I brought in January 2023 to Baghdad, as the translation had been finalized already some time ago. An earlier arrangement with a publisher in Cairo went bust because of the recession.
Avitoria plans to publish the book in time for the International Book Fair in Baghdad in October 2023.
